Ararat Farm Newsletter January 2023

2023! Here we are already near the end of the first month of 2023. This month has already had to many huge adventures and plans taking place to keep us very busy. The winter months are slower on the farm. Normally the most we do is move cows or feed out hay and feed pigs and that is the extent of the main work. So on one hand winter is our rest time. On the other hand it ends up becoming our planning season and prep season for the spring, summer and fall ahead. Planning out order times for the year and buying cows, where cows may be…etc. So, winter still has a busy schedule just different. Well, that is a little peek into the farmer’s life and mind, now to the fun updates and pictures.

Summary for January:

  • The Herd with the pigs

  • Little piggies getting lov’in…

  • Newest animal member

  • 2023 Endeavors!

The Herd

The cows are all doing well this winter. They have officially finished off grazing this month. From here on out they will be eating hay till spring growth comes in. They have recently grazed the pig field which is always entertaining to watch the cows and pigs together.

The Pigs

All the pigs are doing very well. Definitely enjoying themselves with all the muck and mud. They are growing fast but still just as much loving a good rub down as ever. A few of them sometimes just want to snuggle.

Newest 4 Legged Member!

Say hello to our newest doggy member. York is a pure breed lab that some friends could no longer keep. He has been training pretty well but is still staying tied until he is fully familiar with the farm. So far he has enjoyed life on the farm and loves running the ridge and fencing with us.

2023 Endeavor!

This month has started the year with a new endeavor for Ararat Farm. We purchased an excavator at the first of the month with the intention of using it on the farm till spring. Then rent it to a friend who runs a business using equipment. This already has been a huge blessing in fixing driveways and roads and will be put to great use digging out ponds. We are nervous with such a huge endeavor but look forward to what lays ahead with it.

That’s All Folks

This month has already had quite a few big things to start out for a busy year. We are so grateful for all the new opportunities that the Lord brings to the farm. We hope you enjoyed this month’s update. We look forward to next month.
